Dorset nurses getting the recognition they deserve

Over 80 healthcare professionals came together today for a general practice nursing event in Wimborne on Wednesday 8 October.

Most were nurses working in general practice and community care, coming together to share learning, celebrate successes and support one another.

The afternoon was filled with talks, workshops, and networking. Topics included patient safety, how to raise awareness about fraud with patients, an introduction to the Dorset Nursing Network, and examples of good practice such as running group clinics that help patients take charge of their own health.

Nurses also took part in sessions on integrated neighbourhood working, wellbeing, aromatherapy, and general ideas sharing and networking.  These sessions gave them time to learn, share experiences, and pick up practical tips for their work.

The event was organised by the Dorset General Practice Alliance. Clare Mechen, Senior Nurse Lead for the Alliance and Nurse Manager at The Adam Practice said,

“It was wonderful to see so many nurses from across Dorset coming together. The energy and passion for improving patient care really shone through.”

“I think it’s a brilliant event,” said Michelle Court, Practice Nurse Lead at Christchurch Medical Practice. “A nursing role can at times be isolating so it’s great to hear what other people are doing and to be updated on current developments in patient care.”

The event highlighted the huge contribution that nurses make in general practice every day. It also showed the value of coming together to learn, share, and celebrate the difference nurses make in their communities.

To catch up on the event, there is a video coming soon, and visit the main Autumn Membership Event 2025 webpage.
